Bye Bye Barrett
By Mike | June 20, 2007
In case you haven’t heard the Cubs traded Barrett to San Diego this morning in exchange for their backup catcher and a minor leaguer.
Coming into the year I was a Barrett fan. He was a pretty good hitter for a catcher and he had that enforcer type persona that every club needs.
This year, not so much. He’s been brutal. I can’t remember a game that I’ve watched this season where he hasn’t done something to piss me off. Whether its getting picked off, or turning routine baserunning plays into outs, or continually missing balls behind the plate with runners on, it seems every time you turn around he was screwing up. And he isn’t even hitting well this year. Add that to a fight with your number one pitcher and he just had to go. Its too bad they couldn’t have done it preseason when they could have gotten something more for him.
Addition by subtraction blah blah blah.
In honor of Barrett leaving the Cubs are playing like little leaguers. They’re about half way through the game and so far they’ve given up 6 runs, on five hits, four walks and three errors. Offensively they have at least three strikouts with runners in scoring position and a couple of caught stealings.
At least they aren’t playing the worst team in the league. Oh wait they are.
On the plus side Sammy Sosa hit a home run.
Bleh.
