Sox Rainout
By Mike | May 16, 2007
I went to the Sox game last night with a bunch of friends from work. I’ve decided I know way too many Sox fans. I have nothing to report about the game since it got rained out, but I do have some comments about the Sox as a result of yesterday. I know, you can’t wait to hear them. Fear not because said comments are the very next thing you will read on this site.

From what I understand tickets from last nights game are only valid for the makeup game this afternoon. Am I the only one who finds that to be ridiculous? How many people with tickets to last nights game do you think were able to go this afternoon? I’m sure most people were working, or in school, or had other plans. Is it not customary to allow rained out tickets to be exchanged for any other available data? Or is that just a Cubs thing? Most of the people I went with ended up ditching work to go back this afternoon, but they had to call in a number of favors to do so. Unfortunately for my one of my clients was having some problems that I needed to help with, especially since I put them off last night to go to the game in the first place.

I did get a tour of the inner workings of US Cellular field while we were waiting for the rain to stop. My brother is interning for the Sox (I told you I know too many Sox fans) and he showed me around. Although he did make me take off my Cubs jacket before he let me into any restricted areas. The restaurant behind homeplate in the old pressbox is pretty nice. I don’t know that I would commit however much money it costs to rent a seat there, but they were nice seats. I don’t know what the press is bitching about with the new location of the press box. Other than the old press box, I don’t think there are any other better seats in the house. It sure must suck to get paid sit in the second best seats in the park.

I think the park itself gets a bad rap. You always hear how bad it is, but I have to disagree. I don’t think there is a bad seat in the house, and they’ve done a ton to make the interior more fan friendly. Its no Wrigley, but its not bad either.

They actually sold Old Style there, although someone thought it was just a trick to poison Cubs fans. I couldn’t find the booth where I got the Old Style after that though, so maybe I was just seeing things. I should have paid more attention, I wonder if the cans were the special Cubs cans. You would think not, but I didn’t know Old Style made any other kind.
