    Olympics in Chicago?

    By Mike | April 15, 2007

So Chicago won the competition to be the US city biddingto get the 2016 Summer Olympics.  I’d like to go on record as saying I hope we don’t get it.

First of all, I can’t stand the Olympics.  It might not be so bad if they would actually televise the events that were interesting, or if every single athlete didn’t have to have some heartwarming 20 minute story told before they compete, but someone who apparently knows more about programming than I do decided it would be fun to bore the crap out everyone for two weeks while convincing them that they are interested.

That’s not the real reason I don’t want the Olympics coming here.  Chicago has enough problems with traffic to begin with.  Import half a billion people and its going to take you two weeks to drive to the end of the block.  You think the road construction is bad now, wait until every single major road is being worked on at once for the two or three years leading up to the Olympics so that we can have everything ready for the actual event.  Its going to be a whole lot of suck just to host some event that I don’t even care about in the first place.
