Frustration
By Mike | April 15, 2007
I made it to my first game of the season this afternoon. I wish I had something good to report, but alas, there wasn’t much good that came from today’s game. Actually, I take that back. There were two good things I saw. First of all, Ted Lilly held the Reds to one un on two hits, and Ryan Theriot had three hits. Other than that the afternoon was miserable.
We had pretty good seats, about 20 rows behind the Cubs dugout, but we were in the shade the whole game, and it was cold. It didn’t help that the game was boring. Like I said, the Reds only had two hits, and Theriot’s three hits accounted for all but one of the Cubs hits. There were a lot of K’s.
You would think that if you can hold the other team to one run you should get the win, but when your offense is as pathetic as the Cub’s looked today your pitchers are going to have to be perfect. The only chance they had was in the sixth when Soriano lead off with a double and Theriot followed with a single. The held Soriano at third because there were no outs and the three and four hitters were up next. You have to figure they can at least put the ball in play to score that run, but instead what followed were two of the ugliest looking at bats of the game. Both Jones looked horrible as he swung wildly and struck out, and Lee didn’t take the bat off his shoulders striking out on four pitches. It was the kind of inning and game where good teams score, and then win and bad teams don’t
