RB Merry-Go-Round
By Mike | March 9, 2007
Is it me or have there more off season moves in recent years than any other time you can remember? Maybe its just because I’m playing fantasy football now so I’m paying more attention but this is ridiculous. Is any team planning on starting the same back they had last year?
- Bears Trade Thomas Jones to Jets, plan to Start Cedric Benson
- Browns get Jamal Lewis
- Giants get Reuben Droughns
- Jets, get Tomas Jones
- Raiders get Dominic Rhodes
- Bills Trade McGahee to Ravens
- Texans get Ahman Green
- Lions get Tatum Bell from the Broncos
- Broncos get Travis Henry
Did I miss any? That’s almost a third of the league already that will be starting a new RB next year. Plus the Packer’s and the Bills, who lost Green and McGahee will need to find someone else to play for them. That’s a lot of change for one year. Imagine if 10 starting shortstops were on different teams next year?
Speaking of the trades, compare the Bears trade of Jones and a late second round pick to the Jets for an early second round pick and another late pick with the Bills trading McGahee for two third round picks, one this year and one next year, plus a 6th or 7th round pick.
I think the Bears got a better deal. Jones is further towards the end of
his career than McGahee, and the Bears have a capable backup, while the Bills don’t. Yeah the Bills got more, but I wouldn’t have considered McGahee expendable. Now they’ve created another hole in their starting lineup, while the Bears only created a hole on their bench, which can be filled by Peterson or a draft pick.
