    Bears Trade Jones

    By Mike | March 5, 2007

According to ESPN1000 and espn.com the Bears have traded Thomas Jones to the New York Jets. The deal also includes the Bears 2nd round pick (63 overall?) and in return the Bears get the Jet’s second round pick (37th overall I believe).

While I’m a huge Thomas Jones fan, and it doesn’t seem like the Bears are getting much out of the deal, I think overall it is a good move for the Bears. They weren’t going to keep him past this year, so at least they got something for him. There’s also the chance that he holds out in training camp if th Bears don’t trade him, since he feels underpaid and underrespected with Benson arround.

Plus, its about time they gave Benson the starting job. I think barring injury, he’s shown that he can be a #1 back, and that’s what they drafted him for. If he’s going to be your future you have to give him the job sooner or later. Hopefully Adrien Peterson can be a decent enough third down back so Benson won’t have to get all of the carries.
